Katy and Cinco Ranch are open, sunny subdivisions, and that is hard on paint in a different way from the shaded parts of Houston. West-facing elevations and front doors take direct afternoon sun and fade years before the rest of the house does.
We use exterior paint that holds its color, and on front doors we stain and then seal with a UV blocker, because a stained door on a west elevation here will go gray in a couple of seasons without one.
